Fishbourne Roman Palace - An illustrated Family Guide by David Rudkin
(Product ID: 548) |
This guidebook was written by David Rudkin, who is the Director of the Fishbourne Roman Palace, specifically with families and children in mind. The reader is guided around the Palace by King Togibudnus, a noble Celt and probable one-time owner of the Palace. At each significant feature of the remains he tells the reader what it would have been like at a specific time in the past and this is illustrated with an artist's reconstruction. In addition there is a coloured photgraph of the same feature today. This means that the book is not only a very useful guide to the site but is equally valuable as a reference work on the Roman Palace. |

AD43 The Roman Invasion of Britain by John Manley
(Product ID: 72) |
For most of the twentieth century archaeologists and historians believed that the invasion of AD43 started in Kent. John Manley reconsiders the whole range of evidence for such beliefs and Fishbourne in West Sussex is revealed as just as likely a site for the landing.
Reviewers have said:
'Manley now brings...an account which boldly and skilfully marries archaeological detail with an informal and flowing narrative which holds you from start to finish' - Current Archaeology 2002
'This book is essential reading for anyone interested in the Roman invasion and the politics of AD43. It is also an excellent example of lucid intellectual debate in the field of archaeology.'- Practical Archaeology 2002 |
